Call for papers

The Organizing Committee of the 13th International RIdIM Conference and the 1st Brazilian Conference on Music Iconography invites online presentation proposals in expanded abstract format. The conference takes place in Salvador (Bahia - Brazil) on July 20-22, 2011.
Paper submission deadline is October 25, 2010.

Call for Papers

Proposals for conference presentations are cordially invited. Contributions in any field of music iconography are welcome, in particular those relating to the two themes of the Conference:

  1. Source study/research on Latin American, Asian, African and Oceanian music iconography - case studies concerning Latin American, Asian, African and Oceanian music iconography research: dance, music iconography, instruments, musical practices, colonial/exchange, interchange; postcolonial topic, art vs. popular;
  2. Meta-discourse: theoretical and methodological topics concerning dance iconography, music iconography, inter- and exchange between mainland and colony creating identity.

Presentation proposals can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese.
Presentation proposals written in Spanish or Portuguese have to include an abstract in English added to the Content Abstract text-box in the online submission form.

Reviewers evaluation deadline: January 3 , 2011

Program Committee decision: January 30 , 2010
Presenters will be notified of acceptance until January 31 , 2010

Hints and Tips on formatting and submitting expanded abstract proposals Proposals should not exceed 700 words (or aproximately 4000 characters), using Times New Roman font size 11.

Make sure that the proposal submission file is completely blinded (i.e., NO AUTHORS INFO) to guarantee a blind-peer-review evaluation process.

When submitting a proposal, make sure you follow this checklist thoroughly.
1 - Please review the entire form before starting to fill in information to ensure you have the required ones.

2 - Student submissions must have a full-time student as the primary author and be mostly written by students

3 - When typing Author’s information into the submit form, note that Organization should be your company, university, or similar. Please do not use your department or division, unless it is part of your organization's name.

4 - Contact Author: The contact author is the person responsible for correspondence with the Program Chair of the online evaluation system. We ask for additional information about the Contact Author, so that we can ensure timely communication and make the program accurate. We will only contact authors other than the Contact Author if we are unable to reach the Contact Author (e.g., because of an invalid email address). Please notify us of any changes in names, affiliations, etc. in the Contact Author's information. NOTE: If you have more than one email address, please add the second address under "Alternate Email". We will only use that address if there is a problem with the primary email.

5 - Topic Areas: To help match submissions to reviewers and sessions, please select one or more area(s) most applicable to your submission.

6 - Content Abstract: Include a brief description of your proposal submission in English.

7 - File Submission Format: PDF ONLY - File upload limit through the form is 2MB.

PRESENTATION OPTIONS
While regular paper presentations should not exceed a limit of 20 minutes (including their further discussion), very short papers, focusing a single picture (which will be allocated 10 minutes presentation time) are also welcome.
If you choose the short presentation option, please include the phrase "SHORT PRESENTATION" after the title of your proposal.
